China’s 15th National Games came to a grand finish on Friday evening as Shenzhen hosted a vibrant closing ceremony that celebrated the country’s athletic achievements and the spirit of unity across regions. The event marked the end of the nation’s biggest and most prestigious multi sport competition, bringing together thousands of athletes from across China.

The ceremony began at eight in the evening, with delegations from thirty seven regions making their entrance to lively music and enthusiastic applause. Participants included teams from provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions, Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions, the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and three major sports associations. The parade of athletes set a celebratory tone as the crowd cheered them on.

A standout moment of the night came when six of China’s top athletes took the stage to perform the official theme song of the Games. The performers included Su Bingtian, the Asian record holder in the men’s one hundred metre sprint, table tennis legend Ma Long, one hundred metre freestyle world record holder Pan Zhanle, synchronized swimming champions Wang Liuyi and Wang Qianyi, and football star Wang Shuang, who was named the Asian Football Confederation Women’s Player of the Year in two thousand eighteen. Their joint performance symbolised excellence, teamwork, and the pride of Chinese sports.

The closing ceremony also showcased Shenzhen’s reputation as a centre of technological innovation. The gala featured naked eye three dimensional effects, smart wearable devices, cloud based control systems using fifth generation networks, and displays of driverless technology. These high tech elements transformed the show into a futuristic spectacle and highlighted the host city’s dynamic character. For the first time, the ceremony was staged outdoors along the seaside, allowing the natural backdrop of the sea, sky, and city skyline to become part of the visual experience.

The Games, which ran from November nine to twenty one, were co hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. This marked the first occasion that the Greater Bay Area jointly organised the event, reinforcing regional cooperation. The competition featured thirty four sports and more than four hundred events, while the mass participation programme included twenty three sports and over one hundred sixty events to encourage public involvement in fitness and recreation.

Athletes delivered exceptional performances throughout the Games. A total of eight world records, five world youth records, thirteen Asian records, ten Asian youth records, fourteen national records, and seven national youth records were set across multiple disciplines including athletics, swimming, shooting, weightlifting, track cycling, and sport climbing. Remarkably, competitors in twelve events exceeded the winning marks achieved at the Paris Olympics, reflecting the rising global strength of Chinese athletes.

As the lights dimmed over the seaside stage, the enthusiasm of the crowd and the achievements of the athletes left a lasting impression. The 15th National Games demonstrated the continued growth of Chinese sports and the shared spirit that unites competitors from across the nation.
