Palestinians living with disabilities, including many who lost limbs in the Gaza war, came together on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities to highlight their struggles and call for greater recognition. Community groups, medical workers and families participated in events across the enclave, emphasising the need for improved rehabilitation services and long term support.

Amputees and other disabled residents spoke about the challenges of daily life in a territory where medical resources have been severely strained. Many said access to prosthetics, physical therapy and mental health care remains limited, making recovery far more difficult. Campaigners urged local authorities and international organisations to prioritise investment in disability services, noting that the number of people requiring assistance has increased sharply due to conflict related injuries.

Participants also stressed the importance of social inclusion, saying disabled people should be fully integrated into education, employment and public life. Representatives from disability rights groups called for coordinated policies that protect individuals from discrimination and ensure they receive the tools needed to live independently.

Despite the hardship, the gatherings were marked by solidarity and resilience. Families shared stories of perseverance, and organisers hoped the day would draw global attention to the unique challenges faced by Gaza’s disabled community. They said meaningful change will depend on sustained support, stability and a commitment to safeguarding the rights of all persons with disabilities.
