Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Ahmad, has reiterated the country’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause during a meeting with his Palestinian counterpart in New York. The discussion took place at the Pakistan Mission to the United Nations, where both diplomats reviewed current developments and ongoing humanitarian concerns in the region.

According to a press release issued by the Pakistani Mission, the meeting covered a wide range of issues, with a particular focus on the situation in Gaza. The two sides exchanged views on recent developments and discussed the urgent need for international efforts to alleviate the suffering of civilians affected by the conflict. Diplomats emphasized the growing humanitarian challenges and the importance of maintaining global attention on the crisis.

The meeting followed a high-level luncheon hosted a day earlier by Ambassador Asim Ahmad for United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres and the elected members of the UN Security Council, known as the E10. Representatives of the five newly elected members of the Security Council, who will formally assume their seats on 1 January 2026, also attended the gathering. The luncheon provided an opportunity for a wide-ranging discussion on issues related to peace, stability, and UN operations around the world.

Among the topics discussed at the luncheon was the ongoing crisis in Gaza, which continues to draw intense global concern due to the severe humanitarian conditions on the ground. Participants also reviewed developments in UN peacekeeping operations, reflecting on challenges faced in conflict zones and the evolving needs of missions deployed under the UN flag.

Ambassador Asim Ahmad currently serves as the coordinator for the E10 for the month of November, a role that places him at the center of consultations among the elected members of the Security Council. His meetings and engagements throughout the month aim to strengthen coordination among member states and support collective responses to major international issues, including conflicts and humanitarian emergencies.

During his discussion with the Palestinian envoy, Ambassador Ahmad reaffirmed Pakistan’s long-standing and principled stance on the Palestinian question. He reiterated Islamabad’s continued diplomatic, political, and moral support for the rights of the Palestinian people, including their aspiration for a peaceful, sovereign, and independent state. He emphasized that Pakistan remains committed to advocating for justice and supporting international efforts aimed at achieving sustainable peace in the region.

The meeting underscored the close and historic ties between Pakistan and Palestine, with both sides agreeing to maintain regular engagement at the UN and other international forums. They also stressed the need for stronger global action to address the crisis in Gaza and promote a just solution grounded in international law.
