Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for deeper cooperation and a renewed commitment to building a China–Thailand community with a shared future, during his meeting with King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua in Beijing on Friday. The meeting marked a significant moment in bilateral ties as Thailand’s monarch paid his first state visit to China since assuming the throne.
President Xi noted that the king’s visit carries historic weight, as he chose China as the first major country for a state visit and became the first Thai monarch to visit China since the establishment of diplomatic relations. Xi said these gestures reflect the importance Thailand places on its relationship with China and highlight the long-standing sentiment that “China and Thailand are as close as one family.”
During the meeting, Xi expressed his condolences over the recent passing of Queen Mother Sirikit. He emphasized that the Thai royal family has maintained a long and meaningful connection with China, playing an essential role in fostering mutual understanding and goodwill between the two nations. He said China values these contributions and the spirit of friendship that has shaped bilateral ties for decades.
This year marks several milestones in the relationship, including the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties and what both sides have described as the “Golden Jubilee of China–Thailand Friendship.” Xi reflected on the past five decades, noting that despite changes in global politics, China and Thailand have consistently supported one another. Their cooperation, he said, has strengthened people-to-people bonds and reinforced the countries’ roles as trusted neighbors and reliable partners.
Looking ahead, Xi described the current moment as a new starting point in the history of China–Thailand relations. He said he is ready to work closely with the Thai king to deepen cooperation in various fields and further advance the vision of a shared future. According to Xi, the next 50 years of partnership should build on past achievements while expanding into new areas of collaboration.
Xi also highlighted the importance of maintaining strong cultural, economic, and diplomatic ties to ensure sustained development and stability. He said China is committed to enhancing bilateral exchanges, encouraging new forms of cooperation, and supporting joint development initiatives that benefit both nations.
As the two sides mark half a century of diplomatic engagement, Xi said he hopes both countries will continue writing new chapters in their long-standing relationship, guided by mutual respect, shared goals, and a commitment to lasting friendship.
