The meeting underscored that improving conduct is not a short term campaign but a long standing responsibility that requires persistence, self reflection, and accountability at all levels of leadership.

Xi Jinping Sets the Tone at Key Political Bureau Session

Xi Jinping delivered an important address while chairing a criticism and self criticism meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. The session, held over two days, focused on reviewing how effectively the Party’s senior leadership has adhered to the eight point decision and where further improvements are needed.

During the meeting, members of the Political Bureau openly examined their own work and conduct. This process of mutual reflection is a long established Party mechanism designed to strengthen unity and discipline while addressing shortcomings in a structured manner.

Focus on Political Loyalty and Responsibility

Discussions at the meeting centered on several core themes. These included reinforcing political loyalty, strengthening Party spirit, and maintaining deep respect for the people, the Party, and the rule of law. Participants also addressed the need to take greater responsibility in both daily work and Party self governance.

Positive Assessment With Clear Expectations

Xi Jinping commented individually on the speeches delivered by Political Bureau members, noting that the meeting had produced meaningful results. He said the discussions helped strengthen cohesion within the Political Bureau and enhanced its collective ability to lead.

Reflecting on progress since the 18th CPC National Congress, Xi highlighted tangible achievements in correcting four long criticized work styles, namely pointless formality, bureaucratism, hedonism, and extravagance. He also pointed to the effectiveness of a Party wide education campaign launched this year to reinforce implementation of the eight point decision.

Leading by Example Across the Party

Xi urged members of the Political Bureau to act as role models in strengthening Party consciousness and improving conduct. He stressed that leading officials should be firm in their commitment to Marxism and dedicated to the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

According to Xi, leadership performance must be worthy of the times, meaning officials should combine political integrity with practical effectiveness. This includes staying grounded in reality and ensuring that policies and decisions genuinely serve the people.

Staying Close to the Grassroots

A key message from the meeting was the importance of maintaining close ties with the public. Xi instructed senior officials to remain engaged with people at the grassroots level and to listen carefully to different viewpoints.

He also emphasized taking the lead in curbing pointless formality, a persistent issue that can distance governance from real needs. Simplifying procedures and focusing on outcomes were presented as essential steps in improving trust and efficiency.

Courage and Self Discipline in Leadership

Xi called on officials to demonstrate courage when facing difficult tasks and to willingly shoulder heavy responsibilities within their roles. He stressed that effective leadership requires not only authority but also accountability and resilience.

High ranking officials, in particular, were reminded of the importance of self discipline. Xi urged them to remain steadfast in implementing the eight point decision and to consciously act within established rules and regulations.

A Long Term Commitment to Governance Standards

The meeting reinforced that improving conduct is an ongoing process rather than a completed task. Party leaders were reminded that consistency and vigilance are necessary to prevent old problems from resurfacing.
