China and Pakistan have reaffirmed their long-term partnership by agreeing to pursue the next phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor with a strong focus on quality-driven development. Senior Chinese leadership conveyed that both governments share a clear vision for CPEC 2.0, aimed at deepening economic cooperation and delivering tangible benefits to the people of Pakistan. The renewed commitment comes as the two countries mark seventy five years of diplomatic relations, reflecting continuity in mutual trust and strategic alignment. Discussions held in Islamabad highlighted the importance of aligning development priorities with regional needs while strengthening institutional coordination. The agreement underscores a shared belief that economic connectivity, infrastructure modernisation, and industrial cooperation remain central to sustainable growth. Both sides emphasised that CPEC 2.0 will be implemented with careful planning, transparency, and broader stakeholder participation to ensure long term impact.
The second phase of CPEC places strong emphasis on industrialisation, infrastructure expansion, and regional integration, particularly in Gwadar and the surrounding areas. Key projects, including transport links, special economic zones, and aviation infrastructure,e are expected to accelerate economic activity and improve connectivity. Officials noted that the operationalisation of Gwadar’s new airport has already enhanced access for local communities andlaid thed groundwork for future trade flows. Industrial parks under CPEC 2.0 are expected to generate thousands of jobs for Pakistani workers while supporting technology transfer and skills development. China’s experience in industrial planning and Pakistan’s growing workforce are seen as complementary strengths. The focus on inclusive participation aims to ensure that benefits are widely distributed, supporting both national development goals and local livelihoods across multiple provinces.
CPEC 2.0 also expands cooperation into agriculture, mining, education, and social development, reflecting a more comprehensive approach to economic partnership. Agricultural collaboration includes training Pakistani professionals in modern farming techniques and strengthening links between research institutions in both countries. Industrial cooperation is being broadened to include manufacturing clusters that support domestic production and export capacity. In the mining sector, preparatory work for investment engagement is underway, signalling confidence in Pakistan’s resource potential. Education and people-to-people exchanges remain a priority, with scholarship programs and school-level cooperation designed to build long-term human capital. Health and social welfare initiatives, including medical assistance and capacity building, further demonstrate a development model that prioritises public wellbeing alongside economic growth.
