The Dubai Airshow 2025 opened this week with an impressive display of global aviation innovation, and one of the standout attractions is China’s C919 passenger jet making its debut in the Middle East. The five day event, held at Dubai World Central, is one of the most influential aerospace exhibitions in the world. This year’s show set a new record in scale, welcoming more than one thousand five hundred aerospace and defense companies from forty seven countries and regions, along with an expected one hundred and forty eight thousand visitors. With the theme The Future Is Here, the exhibition highlights the rapid changes taking place across the aviation industry.
One of the biggest draws on the opening day was the C919 displayed by China Southern Airlines. The model showcased is configured with one hundred and sixty four seats across three classes and features a cabin interior designed with what the airline describes as oriental elegance. Long lines formed as attendees waited for a chance to step inside the aircraft, explore the seating and cabin layout and meet members of the flight crew positioned in the cockpit.
The C919 is produced by the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China and represents a major milestone in the country’s aviation ambitions. It is a domestically developed trunk line jet built according to international airworthiness standards and holds fully independent intellectual property rights. The aircraft has been steadily gaining attention as China works to strengthen its presence in the global commercial aviation market.
So far, twenty six C919 jets have been delivered and are already flying more than thirty routes. Since entering commercial service, the aircraft has transported over two million passengers, demonstrating increasing confidence from both airlines and travelers. Its appearance in Dubai marks a significant step in expanding its international visibility.
The airshow also features a broad range of Chinese aviation products for both civilian and military use. One highlight is the full scale Wing Loong X drone model, making its first appearance at an overseas exhibition. Visitors have shown strong interest in its long range performance and heavy load capacity. Other showcased aircraft include the J 10CE fighter jet, the J 35A stealth fighter and the Y 20 transport aircraft, each reflecting China’s growing capabilities in aerospace development.
In the aviation engine sector, the Aero Engine Corporation of China is participating in the Dubai Airshow for the first time. The company is presenting several notable products such as the Taihang engine, the AES100 and various gas turbines. Its participation underscores efforts to strengthen global cooperation and expand China’s role in the international aviation supply chain.
