The Communist Party of China Central Committee held a special symposium in Beijing on Thursday to commemorate the 110th birth anniversary of Hu Yaobang, one of the most notable Party leaders of the reform era. The event took place at the Great Hall of the People, where senior leadership gathered to honor Hu’s legacy and reflect on the values he championed throughout his political career.

President Xi Jinping, who also serves as general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, delivered the keynote address. His speech focused on the importance of learning from Hu’s spirit, work ethic and moral example as China continues its journey toward national rejuvenation.

President Xi highlighted Hu’s remarkable life, emphasizing his determination and unwavering revolutionary commitment. He urged Party members to draw inspiration from Hu’s loyalty, steadfast dedication and strong sense of purpose. Xi encouraged all members to remain firm in their beliefs, to stay devoted to the Party and to commit themselves fully to the long term mission of advancing Chinese modernization.

A major theme in President Xi’s speech was Hu’s insistence on working in accordance with reality. Xi stressed that Hu consistently practiced the principle of seeking truth from facts, a mindset that played a key role during pivotal moments in China’s development. He called on Party members to uphold this approach, maintaining a clear and practical understanding of the challenges ahead while remaining committed to finding truthful and effective solutions.

Xi also praised Hu’s contributions to reform and opening up, noting that Hu devoted tremendous energy to promoting modernization and encouraging societal progress. In this spirit, Xi urged the entire Party to deepen ongoing reforms and unleash greater vitality across the nation.

Another aspect of Hu’s work that Xi emphasized was his strong sense of responsibility toward improving people’s livelihoods. Hu consistently focused on real issues that affected ordinary citizens and championed initiatives aimed at economic growth and social betterment. Xi encouraged Party officials to follow Hu’s example by delivering practical results that improve the sense of gain, happiness and security among the people.

In addition, Xi reflected on Hu’s commitment to promoting honesty and integrity within the Party. Hu placed great importance on correcting misconduct and maintaining high moral standards. Xi called on Party members, particularly senior officials, to uphold these values and remain free from corruption.

The meeting was chaired by Cai Qi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, who called for continued efforts to build a strong nation and advance national rejuvenation through Chinese modernization. Li Xi, also a member of the Standing Committee, attended the event.
