Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the importance of timely implementation of the next phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor during a meeting in Islamabad with Sun Haiyan. The discussion focused on strengthening economic cooperation and reinforcing the long standing strategic partnership between Pakistan and China. The prime minister highlighted that efficient execution of CPEC projects remains central to expanding trade, improving connectivity, and supporting Pakistan’s economic recovery efforts. He conveyed appreciation for China’s continued support across development and infrastructure sectors and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to its strategic cooperative partnership. The talks also reflected a shared resolve to maintain close coordination at leadership and institutional levels, ensuring that bilateral initiatives progress in line with agreed timelines and deliver tangible economic benefits.

During the meeting, the prime minister reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering adherence to the One China policy and conveyed goodwill messages to Xi Jinping and the Chinese leadership. He described 2026 as a milestone year marking seventy five years of diplomatic relations between the two countries and renewed an invitation for President Xi to undertake an official visit to Pakistan. The prime minister noted that recent high level exchanges, including visits by senior Pakistani leadership to Beijing and Shanghai, reflect the depth and continuity of bilateral engagement. He underlined that sustained political dialogue and economic cooperation are essential for navigating regional challenges and advancing shared development goals. The meeting underscored the importance of aligning political commitment with project level execution to strengthen long term economic ties.

Vice Minister Sun Haiyan reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to further deepening cooperation with Pakistan across all sectors and praised efforts aimed at economic and political stabilization. She highlighted the importance of party to party engagement between the Communist Party of China and Pakistan’s political parties as a means to strengthen institutional cooperation. The Chinese side expressed confidence in Pakistan’s governance reforms and acknowledged progress in uniting political forces around national development objectives. The discussion also emphasized expanding cooperation through structured political dialogue and institutional mechanisms to support CPEC implementation. By reinforcing party level ties alongside state engagement, both sides signaled their intent to ensure that bilateral cooperation remains resilient, coordinated, and focused on long term strategic and economic outcomes.
