China’s top leadership convened on Friday as the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee gathered to examine a major report on the country’s ongoing disciplinary inspection work. The meeting, chaired by General Secretary Xi Jinping, focused on the findings of the latest inspection rounds carried out across provinces, autonomous regions, and major municipalities under the central government.

The inspections, conducted as part of the 20th CPC Central Committee’s fifth and sixth rounds, have now completed full coverage of all provincial-level regions. According to the meeting, this milestone reflects the party’s commitment to strengthening discipline and ensuring that local authorities remain aligned with the central leadership’s priorities.

The report highlighted that provincial level governments have made noticeable progress in key areas of governance and party discipline. However, it also revealed a number of persistent problems that require urgent attention. Officials noted that these issues must be addressed with determination to prevent them from becoming long term obstacles to the party’s goals.

Participants emphasised that rectification work must be carried out rigorously and consistently. They stressed that the follow up actions should not be treated as isolated tasks but rather integrated into broader strategic objectives. This includes aligning rectifications with the guiding principles set during the fourth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee and incorporating them into the economic and social development plans for the next five years.

The meeting also underscored that party committees across all provincial regions bear a responsibility to faithfully implement the major decisions of the central leadership. Ensuring that these directives reach every level of governance is seen as essential for maintaining cohesion and delivering on national priorities such as high quality development, social stability and institutional reform.

In addition, officials were urged to strengthen evaluation systems for cadres, particularly those in leading positions. The meeting called for more effective oversight mechanisms to monitor how power is allocated and exercised, reflecting the party’s continued focus on preventing misconduct and improving transparency. Special emphasis was placed on tightening supervision of top officials, whose behaviour and leadership play a decisive role in shaping political discipline at the local level.

Anti corruption efforts also featured prominently in the discussions. The meeting reaffirmed the party’s commitment to maintaining strong pressure against corruption, stressing that hard won gains must not be reversed. Officials emphasised that persistent vigilance is necessary to ensure that the fight against corruption remains effective and that public confidence in party governance continues to grow.

By reviewing both progress and shortcomings, the leadership signalled its intention to refine its governance strategies and strengthen institutional discipline nationwide. The inspection system, long regarded as a core tool of internal supervision, remains central to the ongoing effort to promote clean governance and ensure alignment between local administrations and the central leadership.

As China looks ahead to its next phase of development, the outcomes of this meeting suggest that discipline, oversight and anti corruption measures will continue to be major priorities for the CPC in the years to come.
